RADON MITIGATION AND BASEMENT WATERPROOFING
What
are Radon Loc and Radon Loc Extra?
Radon Loc and Radon Loc Extra are specially formulated,
water-based, penetrating concrete sealers. When sprayed onto a concrete
surface they penetrate deeply into the walls and floor, one to four
inches, creating an impenetrable barrier to radon and moisture migration.
It does this through a chemical reaction between the sealer and
the alkali in the concrete. This reaction creates a gel. The gel
then moves throughout the pores and hairline cracks of the concrete
and solidifies. The concrete is now up to 42% denser and stronger
and prevents moisture and cancer-causing radon from entering your
home. These clear sealers will not change the look or feel of the
concrete but will seal and protect it from the inside, permanently.
What’s
the difference between Radon Loc and Radon Loc Extra?
They are basically the same product however, Radon
Loc Extra has been specifically formulated with extra solids
to give wet, damp, or porous concrete the extra protection it needs
to permanently lock out moisture and radon.
Radon
Loc has been formulated for use on smooth,
unpainted, unsealed concrete floors. It is the best product to use
if the concrete has a very tight or smooth finish and moisture is
not a problem. It should be used when a high radon level is the
only concern. Applying Radon Loc concrete sealer on Fiber Crete
concrete may not provide the same quality seal as standard concrete.

Radon Loc
Extra has been formulated for use on unpainted, unsealed, poured
foundations, floors, and concrete block. It is a complete waterproofing
concrete sealer and can be used to prevent moisture and high radon
levels. It has additional solids to give your concrete the extra
protection it needs to permanently lock out moisture and radon.
Lightweight, Featherweight or similar types of concrete block cannot
be sealed using Radon Loc Extra. Please call for technical assistance.
How
does Radon Loc work and where can it be used?
Radon Loc is a water based, silicate densifying sealer
that works so well that one treatment comes with a twenty-year manufacturer’s
warranty. When Radon Loc is sprayed onto the surface, it penetrates
deeply into the concrete (1" to 4") and immediately comes
in contact with the alkali and starts to form a gel, thus chemically
changing the alkali forever. The gel moves out in all directions,
filling the pores and hairline cracks and purging contaminants (including
most oils). The gel, which now fills the pores, turns hard like
concrete itself. Since all of this action is inside the concrete
and not on the surface it does not affect its’ usage. The concrete
is now sealed to the point of zero penetration, protecting the infrastructure
from radon, water and other harmful substances. Radon
Loc's waterproofing capability is unsurpassed by any other product
on the market today.
Radon Loc concrete
sealant will make old and new concrete last for years and years
longer than untreated concrete. It is a simple two or three application
process that will permanently seal out the harsh elements that enter
concrete leading to its destruction. Treating the concrete in this
manor will extend its life indefinitely.
Radon mitigation,
concrete sealing, and basement waterproofing are just a few of the
many uses for Radon Loc. Other applications include: Sealing new
or existing concrete surfaces such as garages, driveways, steps,
sidewalks, patios, pool decks, warehouse floors, loading docks,
bridges, and many more. It can also be used on masonry, and stucco.
Protecting
Your Loved Ones!
Make no mistake
about it...Radon is dangerous and hazardous to your health. Radon
is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers who live in houses
with high levels of radon. Don’t expose your loved ones to this
colorless, tasteless, odorless killer.
Radon gas has
been found in every state, in new well-sealed homes as well as older
less insulated ones. Because the inside air pressure in a building
is lower than the pressure in the ground, buildings can act like
a vacuum pulling the highly concentrated radon gas from below the
ground. Having a good water drainage system around or under your
foundation can actually assist radon entering your home as the disturbed
soil and gravel remain warm and can attract radon gas from the surrounding
soil. This is a process called "wicking".
Don’t
Vent It . . . Prevent It!
Professionally
installed radon remediation systems help a great deal but do very
little to stop the flow of radon from entering your home. They are
designed to redirect the radon that has already entered your home
back outside, they are expensive to install, typically, $1200.00
and up, and even more expensive to operate over time.
There are additional
costs and concerns with these types of radon remediation systems.
For example: a fan running twenty-four (24) hours a day seven (7)
days a week, the noise of the fan, the electricity used to run it,
the heat loss from the house and the ultimate replacement of the
fan, which can cost several hundred dollars or more. With today’s
high heating and cooling costs it is unthinkable to spend money
to pull the heated or cooled air from your home. These costs are
never ending and can add up quickly. Not to mention they will do
nothing to eliminate wet, damp, unhealthy basements that are a breeding
ground for mold and mildew.
RadonLoc.com has chosen a different approach to reducing radon and
moisture in your home. We stop it at the source, the foundation.
We don’t want it entering in the first place. The average home can
be sealed to prevent radon transmission for a few hundred dollars.
It is a simple, do-it-yourself project that will only take a few
hours to complete. It is probably one of the easiest, safest, and
most important projects you will ever do around the house. What
could be more important than protecting the health of your family?
Once the concrete
has been properly sealed with Radon Loc it never has to be re-applied.
You will have peace of mind knowing that you have created a safe,
usable living space and reduced the potential for dangerous health
problems associated with radon exposure. According to the EPA, reducing
radon levels by any percentage in your home also reduces your chance
of lung cancer by that same percentage. (Example: if you reduce
the radon level in your home by 50% you have also just reduced your
chance of getting radon related lung cancer by 50%).
Lets face it,
if you had a home with lead paint or asbestos, you would spare no
expense to have them professionally removed to protect your family.
You just wouldn’t take the chance. Just because you can’t see,
smell, taste or hear radon, you may think that you are safe. Nothing
could be farther from the truth. The decision of what to do about
radon is a personal choice that only you can make.
